Adoption Plus Some Matchmaking

We have a pretty good routine going here...get up, grab breakfast..go to the local farmers market, and then head out to the camp to see Sergei and the rest of the kids. Calling it a farmers market really doesn't do it justice...fruit, vegetables, meat, pig knuckles, deoderant, bathtubs, fabric, etc. We picked up a soccer ball and some soccer socks since there was obviously a deficit at camp. We don't write this blog to make everyone at home cry, but when we gave a pair of soccer socks to Sergei's friend, Gena, he smelled them and said "new!!!!!"
Sergei was working the gate when we got to camp, since all of the older kids have some required duty there. We hung out with him and a buddy, as well as about five men who work there and ate some great cherries from the market. Sergei has a future as a paparazzi as he took the camera and went to town taking photos of everything. Before dinner, there was a talent show which also ended with a Miss Alliance (name of the camp) being crowned. We crack up at all the kids who come up to us now and want to speak English..."What is your name?" "How are you today?".....we answer this about 100 times a day at camp.

We had dinner with Sergei's teacher, Larrisa and her husband, along with Yana who we met in the bank yesterday. Yana speaks great English so we were able to use her skills to ask some more questions about Sergei and his background, his work in the classroom, and anything else we should know about him. We found out that actually the earlier the child is placed in the orphanage, usually the better they turn out, so it caused a change in our thinking about the time Sergei has spent here...it's all been in very loving hands who guided his development.

As dinner ended, Larrisa and her husband walked us back to our hotel and we both thought that Yana would be a good match for their 25 year old son....so...the matchmaking thing may work. We told them we'll come back for the wedding.

No news on Interpol since it is the wekeend. Wait, pray and see.
